The ancestor of modern surfing…

Stand up paddleboarding, or SUP, is a board sport originally practiced by Polynesians and later popularized by the famous swimmer Duke Kahanamoku in Hawaii in the 1940s, using a “long board”.
The Beach Boys used these long boards and paddles to move along the beaches of Waikiki and to watch over the swimming areas.

Today, stand up paddleboarding is practiced all over the world. The sport has reached a peak in popularity across all continents, and the industry surrounding it has grown tremendously over the past ten years. Our sailing school in Hyères offers boards specifically suited to this activity.
From a simple ride with friends on a lake, to river descents, and even stand up paddle surfing (riding waves just like surfing), there are many ways to enjoy this sport. The gliding sensations and the versatility of SUP make it one of the most attractive water sports today.
