WHAT TO VISIT BY BIKE IN HYÈRES?

Hyères is a seaside town with a rich historical heritage. Visiting Hyères means enjoying a day full of nature and culture. And exploring it by bike makes it even better!

Olbius Riquier Park

Lovers of gardens, welcome to this delightful green haven—the Olbius Riquier Park! Just a short ride from the town center, this 7-hectare park, which can be explored by bike, is labeled as a “Remarkable Garden.” A title well deserved, as the park is full of wonders. During your ride, you’ll discover a pond, charming little bridges, fragrant flowers, and an exotic greenhouse with tropical plants.

The Olbius Riquier Park even features a mini-zoo with peacocks and birds!

La Villa Noailles

This beautiful building, dating back to 1920, was once a modern art residence. Today, as a contemporary art center, it hosts the International Festival of Fashion and Photography each year, along with exhibitions on fashion, design, photography, and architecture. Treat yourself to a cultural escape by purchasing a ticket to the permanent or temporary exhibition. If you prefer not to enter, admire this gem of modern architectural heritage and enjoy the breathtaking view from the garden over Hyères and the Golden Islands.

Hyères City Center

Pedal into the old town, a picturesque village with its narrow, flower-filled, and colorful streets. You’ll ride past old houses, the Templar Tower, Saint-Louis Church, and the remains of the ancient fortress walls. All these buildings are full of charm, giving a truly pleasant feel to your bike ride.

The Archaeological Site of Olbia

A bike ride through Hyères wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Olbia archaeological site. Wander along the ruins of an ancient Greek colony founded in the 4th century BC. Beneath your wheels once lay thermal baths, shops, and ancient streets. This site, perched on a promontory, overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. This journey into Hyères’ ancient past is also a great opportunity to pull out your camera—the panoramic view is absolutely breathtaking.

The Castle of Hyères

Continue your tour of Hyères’ historic sites by bike with the discovery of its castle, one of the city’s iconic landmarks. Built in the 11th century to defend the town from invasions and attacks—such as those by Barbary pirates—only ruins remain today, so the castle itself cannot be visited. However, you can learn more about the history of Hyères and the region thanks to the informational panels placed around the site.

The surrounding panorama is well worth the trip—park your bike for a moment and soak in the breathtaking views of the coastline and the Golden Islands.

The Island of Porquerolles

If you’re renting bikes for several days, take the opportunity to head over to the island of Porquerolles. There, no cars are allowed! It’s the perfect place for cycling. Ride along the coast, past La Courtade and Notre-Dame beaches, Pointe Prime, Argent Beach, and the black sand beach of Langoustier.

Porquerolles is a truly beautiful island, perfect to explore by bike. On the southern side, discover a rugged coastline shaped by cliffs and hidden coves. To the north, you’ll find sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. Park your bike and enjoy a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean.

The Salt Marshes

These former salt marshes are now a protected area home to rich flora and fauna. You’ll find flamingos, many bird species, and a variety of plants. The salt flats are divided into two areas: Les Vieux Salins, which stretch along the coastline east of Hyères, and Le Salin des Pesquiers, located in the center of the Giens Peninsula. Bike-friendly paths run through these salt marshes.

The Port

Port Saint-Pierre is a marina that hosts 1,500 boats. Hyères also has four smaller ports: l’Ayguade, la Capte, le Niel, and Auguier. Ride along the docks by bike, admire the sailboats, small fishing boats, and luxury yachts, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of this port area.

The Beaches

At the end of your bike ride, and before returning it to our rental agency, take a break with a family beach stop. Hyères offers several beautiful fine sandy beaches: Almanarre Beach, Salins Beach, or Ayguade Beach. Your children can splash happily in the calm waters of the Mediterranean, while parents soak up the generous southern sun or enjoy a refreshing swim.
